ACTIVE8 GETS BLOGGING

Do you have a disability?
Do you know someone with a disability?
Do you want to understand what life with a disability is like?
Do you want to work toward a more inclusive world?

Then this blog is about you, for you and by you.

WHAT IS THE ACTIVE8 BLOG?

The Active8 blog is a section of our website which aims to provide a platform for disability-related content.

Not heard of Active8 before? Find out who we are on our about us pages.

It is our ambition to create a blog that helps raise awareness of disability in the UK and each blog post will focus on a different aspect of life with a disability or content about our charity and the work we do.

From interviews to reviews, sharing our thoughts on disability in politics, sharing lived experiences of disability, and talking about the highs and lows of living with a disability in the UK.

Watch this space.

WHO IS THE ACTIVE8 BLOG FOR?

The short answer is… anyone who wants to read it!

Some blog posts may be aimed slightly more toward individuals living with a disability, some may be aimed at parents of disabled children or teens, some may be aimed at youth work professionals, companies, or members of the public.

As far as we’re concerned, the more people talking and learning about disability, the better!

daring to talk about the tough topics

Whoever you are and whatever your background, we hope there’s something here for everyone. But if there’s not… get in touch with us and let us know. We’re open to suggestions and will try to create the content you want to read. After all, if you want to read it, there’s bound to be others out there who do too.

Contact us if you would like any of our blogs in a different, easy-read, format and we can send these to you.

WHO WRITES OUR BLOG?

We have a great team of writers all of whom have different experiences with disability that they want to share with you. From our members to our staff, from our trustees to volunteer writers, we want everyone to have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions.

All our blog posts have an “about the author” section to let you know who has written it and a bit about their background.

It takes a LOT to put yourself out there with blogging, especially when you’re sharing personal information or experiences that you found upsetting or emotional. All we ask is for respect to our writers for daring to talk about the tough topics.

Want to write for us? Get in touch and help us keep this blog going, we’d love to hear from you.

GOT A QUESTION?

It’s the old anecdote… “there’s no such thing as a daft question”.

So true!

No question can be wrong if it is genuinely asked and well meant. We’ll answer your question or signpost you to relevant information.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m Lindsey. After 3 years as a volunteer for Active8, in January 2020 I secured my position working for the charity as a Project Coordinator.

My role involves working with disabled young people across Cornwall to build their confidence, plan and deliver a range of independent living sessions, organise activities to encourage friendships, and provide the group with opportunities to try new things.

I'm new to blogging but Active8 has taught me to be bold, get stuck in, and try new things!
