Food Active 8 food
I’m Amber a member of The Illumin8 crew and at the end of June we had the most amazing experience with Cornish field kitchen, who gave us the most delicious workshop/ class!
This workshop gave me the opportunity to learn some completely new skills like filleting fish and butchering chicken safely which, for someone like me who has always loved food cooking and baking, was a really interesting and fun skill to learn. It also fitted in the ethos and key elements and principles of Active8 and helped encourage independence.
As I know, for me personally I will take the skills I grained from this workshop forward into my life as I begin the process of living without my parents and I now feel more comfortable and confident to be able to host dinner parties or just cook healthy meals for myself which is something that is very important to me.
This workshop was also beneficial for helping me with my social skills and reintroducing me to Active8 this year since being poorly last year. I found the process of eating with each other an easier way to open conversations, which would lead to other conversations, which leads to friendships being made.
The menu itself was mackerel and fresh salad for starter, full roast chicken and vegetables for main, and a chocolate pudding!
It was also really a beneficial opportunity for me as a younger member to talk to older members about how they cook at home. It gave a deeper understanding of what adaptions I may want to have when I move out as having a kitchen I can cook in is a very important component of living on my own.
( who doesn’t love food )
Thank you to Tom for offering such an amazing experience and thank you Lindsey who allowed me to write this.
It feels good to be back!
